Food, Fabulous Food!

The focus of the festival is, of course, fresh hot Maine lobster! Enjoy your lobster dinner under the Maine Eating Tent while enjoying a view of Penobscot Bay. What could be better on a warm August day?

During the 2007 Lobster Festival, over 20,000 pounds of luscious lobster was prepared in our huge steamer on the shore (that's a show in itself!). In addition to lobster, you can choose from steamed and fried clams, fried Maine shrimp, shrimp cocktail, steamed mussels in wine and vegetable sauce, and many varieties of traditional summer fair food, all prepared in the traditional Maine way.

Lobster Crate Race

Crate race contestant

An extremely popular and fun event, contestants from all over the world take a shot at navigating a string of 50 partially submerged lobster crates. The winner is the person who runs the most crates before falling into the chilly Atlantic ocean.

In recent years a young man from Austria won the race with over 2000 crates crossed before he fell into the cold waters of the harbor. The all-time record is held by a midcoast girl, Susan Lundquist, who managed 3,007! WOW!

The "Great International William Atwood Lobster Crate Race" is open to anyone brave enough to risk falling into the chilly ocean with thousands of people watching your every move! Sign up for the Crate Race occurs the day of the race, Sunday, August 3, at the Information Booth starting at 7:00 am. Be there early as the spots fill up quickly and space is limited!

Entertainment

The Maine Lobster Festival has music for every taste! Look for jazz, comedy, oldies, celtic, reggae, folk, or a dash of the blues scattered throughout the festival grounds!

This year’s headliners are: The Lou Gramm Band on Thursday, Suzy Bogguss & Jamie O'Neal on Friday, and a "Remember When" evening on Saturday, featuring Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon, Jay & the Techniques, and Little Anthony and the Imperials.

On Thursday, July 31, Lou Gramm Band takes the stage.  The long-time lead singer of the band Foreigner, Lou can be expected to highlight his career hits including “Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Feels Like the First Time.”  Having sold nearly 80 million albums worldwide, with a total of 20 Top-40 hits, Gramm is considered one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in Rock.

Two of the most respected and gifted singers in country music will share the stage with their bands on Friday,
August 1.  Suzy Bogguss, a class act and true original, is a most engaging singer and fine songwriter.  She has collaborated with Vince Gill, Chet Atkins, and Willie Nelson, to name just a few of her big fans.  Jamie O’Neal has been described as a “Ferrari of a voice.”  She has written songs for Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, and LeAnn Rimes; and toured with Reba, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith; and she has appeared often on the Leno and Letterman shows.

Saturday night, August 2nd will treat Festival-goers to an evening of “Remember When.”  Kicking off the evening will be the irrepressible Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon, who first charted with the smash hit “Palisades Park” and followed up with “Tallahassee Lassie.”  He has enjoyed more than 20 charted hits and made more appearances than any other artist on Dick’s Clark’s American Bandstand.Jay & The Techniques are best known for the monster hits “Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie” and “Keep the Ball Rollin’” but they’ve also earned a solid reputation for their exciting live show.  Headlining Saturday is the legendary Little Anthony & The Imperials, one of the most seminal voices of early rock.  The all-original group’s timeless hits include “Tears on my Pillow,” “Shimmy Shimmy Ko-ko Bop,” “Goin’ Out of My Head,” and “Hurt So Bad” among many other big hits.

Check out our full schedule for details on other local and regional acts that will be performing in 2008.
