ROCKLAND, MAINE – The Maine Lobster Festival Corporation was honored to support Mid-Coast School of Technology student, Alden Wadsworth, and The Rockland Coast Guard at their April 26 Board of Directors meeting.

Wadsworth attended the Lobster Festival’s April 26 meeting to share his story with the Board of Directors. Wadsworth explained that he participated in an in-house SkillsUSA automotive refinishing challenge at MCST earlier this year. His refinishing talent took him to SkillsUSA’s state-wide competition in Bangor, Maine, where he took first place in the state for the refinishing portion of the competition. He now has the opportunity to compete in the SkillsUSA Nationals competition in Louisville, Kentucky, in June. Participants are required to raise funds through sponsorships in order to cover travel and participation costs. Wadsworth requested a $200 sponsorship from the Board of Directors, which was presented to him by Sharon Lombardo.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms.

Laurie Smith, co-chair of the Rockland Coast Guard City Committee, also presented at the April 26 meeting. The Rockland Coast Guard City Committee asked the Maine Lobster Festival to sponsor a table at their Annual Appreciation Dinner for the Rockland Coast Guard, which will be held on May 6, 2016. This sponsorship directly benefits Coast Guard personnel by covering the cost of meals for 10 active duty Coast Guard members. The Rockland Coast Guard City Committee requested a $350 sponsorship, which was presented to Smith by Lombardo.
