February 6, 2017 – The Maine Lobster Festival Board of Directors unanimously agreed in November to donate $1,500 in support of the Oceanside High School Class of 2018. Students accepted the check at the Directors’ January meeting.

Accepting the check on behalf of the Class of 2018 was, from left to right, Titus Kaewthong, Elliot Spear, Molly Spencer, Molly Davis, and Erin Dugan. Presented by Cynthia Powell and Laurie Smith.

In late 2016 a parent volunteer in charge of the bank account for the Class of 2018 was accused of stealing more than $8,000 from the fund for personal use. Students and their families raised the money over a period of three years to be used for graduation expenses for students.

“The unfortunate circumstance resulting in the loss of Class of 2018 funds has been a difficult one.” Said MLF Board President Cynthia Powell. “These students have worked hard to fundraise and they shouldn’t have to bear the burden. So many of these kids and their families volunteer their time at the Maine Lobster Festival each year. We appreciate all of their support, and we knew that we had to do something to help. It has always been the mission of the Lobster Festival to give back to our local communities. We are encouraged that other individuals and businesses have already stepped up to assist the Class of 2018, and we hope more will join in that effort.”
