The Maine Lobster Festival will be featured on The Travel Channel’s reality television series “Bert the Conqueror” on Tuesday, June 7 at 8 p.m. EST. Bert Kreischer, the show’s enthusiastic host, travels across the country taking on “the most absurd challenges America has to offer.”
In the Season 3 premiere “Walk on Water,” Bert takes on an absurd challenge many Midcoast Maine residents are familiar with: The Maine Lobster Festival’s world-renown International Great Lobster Crate Race. Footage from the 2015 Maine Lobster Festival will air on the show as Bert tries to run across Rockland Harbor on the lobster crates in an attempt to conquer this annual competition that thousands gather to watch each year.
The International Great Lobster Crate Race is open to anyone brave enough to risk falling into the chilly ocean with thousands of people watching your every move. Invented by William Atwood in the 1970s, the lobster crate race is a test of balance and endurance… and sometimes a bit of theatrics. It requires speed, quick feet, balance and, of course, the ability to withstand a dunk into Rockland Harbor’s chilly waters. In 2015, eight-year-old Scarlett Flint of Warren, Maine, became the two-time winner of the International Great Lobster Crate Race when she ran a total of 3,000 lobster crates.
If you’re wondering how well Bert did, turn your TV on to The Travel Channel on June 7. Learn more about Bert The Conqueror by visiting The Travel Channel’s website.
